Viscount Alexander Collegiate Institute was the high school in north Fort Garry from
1949 until the opening of Vincent Massey Collegiate in 1960. The school is still there at
the corner of Waterford and Point Road and is now known as Ecole Viscount Alexander
and has not been a high school since the summer of 1960.

Before Viscount, the high school for north Fort Garry was the old General Byng school
on Beaumont Street at Waterford Avenue, just south of the current General Byng school.
Further south in Fort Garry, Grandin School (located on the east side of Pembina Hwy.
approximately across from Value Village) was the high school until, I believe 1952,
when Pembina Crest was opened. Pembina Crest is now the Winnipeg Technical College,
Pembina campus. Further south, in the Kings Park area, St. Avila East was the high
school. In the fall of 1959 all Fort Garry high school classes were moved to Viscount
prior to Vincent Massey opening. In 1967 Fort Richmond Collegiate was opened to
become the south Fort Garry high school.

We are having a Viscount high school reunion combined with the Vincent Massey 50th
reunion in 2010 which takes place May 27 to 30, 2010. All VACI former students may
register for the Vincent Massey Reunion. The VACI committee is organizing one event
for all who attended high school at Viscount.

On Friday evening May 28, 2010 we are planning a cocktail party event, an opportunity
to mix and mingle and renew old friendships and as an opportunity to plan other activities
with old friends. The evening will begin at 7:30 PM at Canad Inns Fort Garry, 1824
Pembina Hwy in Ambassador rooms B, C and D and the courtyard. The fee for this event
is only $15. As mentioned earlier we are welcome to register for the Vincent Massey
reunion which includes a dinner at the convention centre, and I understand seating will be
organized by years.
